Theatre Flat, 2016 - 2017
Items from a domestic environment were staged within my bedroom whilst elements of the space were left within the frame. The materiality of the objects and their fragmental visual associations are important to the spectator in the transition from an object into a prop. Objects, although distorted, and warped become framed by their heavy shadows acting as anchors to their physical states. Still reaching us are signifiers of the domestic sphere but not through a reality or even a manipulation of reality, but a Heterotopia or what Victor Burgin refers to as the “Cinematic Heterotopia”. The staged and unstaged dialect within these frames aims to obscure the function, weight, and size of the objects.
